The exhibition took place in the abandoned warehouse, in the same courtyard where Nucleu 0001 started. Just after we closed the project, one of the most important galleries in Romania, Nicodim Gallery, moved in, and that was the start of the transition to the hottest contemporary art location in town. Our two exhibitions were organized here when it was all wasteland, and the was renting it to the local garbage trucks and for film production firms to film inside and build sets.

The transformation of the abandoned warehouse into a thriving art hub, known as Combinatul Fondului Plastic (The Plastic Fund Warehouse), marks a significant shift in the utilization of space and the revitalization of creative culture within the community. This evolution underscores the adaptive reuse of industrial spaces and the resurgence of artistic expression in post-industrial environments.

This transition reflects a broader trend of repurposing derelict structures into dynamic cultural venues, breathing new life into neglected urban landscapes.

Combinatul Fondului Plastic stands as a testament to the collaborative efforts of the Union of Romanian Artists, reclaiming space once relegated to disuse and transforming it into a vibrant hub for artistic innovation. The site’s historical significance, formerly dedicated to the production of colors and artistic materials, adds layers of narrative depth to its current identity as a nexus for the creative industry.

The space under Communist rule was the most important artistic production site in Romania, with workshops for crafts and art and facilities such as ceramic and glass ovens, metal foundries, and artist studios.
